The Seychelles has got to be one of my favourite places in the world, reason enough to keep going back, this one is from a visit to Praslin Island with the family.
Getting to Praslin
The ferry from Mahe to Praslin takes around an hour and departs 3 times a day, but flying takes only 15 minutes with flights throughout the day. It costs a bit more but for me the convenience is well worth the cost. We took the short trip with Air Seychelles domestic services, which has frequent flights between Mahe and Praslin, as often as every 30 minutes at some times of the day.
Paradise Sun Resort
We stayed at the Paradise Sun Hotel which must be located on one of the better swimming beaches on Praslin. Great accommodation, good food and actually quite friendly staff, something to be appreciated in Seychelles, where not all customer service staff are that welcoming.[vc_single_image image=”3787″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”]
Anse Lazio Beach
I recommend hiring a car, the island isn’t huge, some people choose to explore it by bike, but it’s got some pretty steep hills, for the less fit, a car is ideal, and they aren’t too expensive from the local car hire companies. A definite must see is what is for me the most beautiful beach in the world, Anse Lazio.[vc_single_image image=”3785″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”]
Vallee De Mai And “Zimbabwe”
Also worth visiting is the Vallee De Mai (Wikipedia link) reserve where you can see the impressive Coco De Mer growing in it’s indigenous habitat and if very lucky you might be privileged enough to see a rare Black Parrot. For an overview of the island and views all the way to Mahe, take the turnoff to “Zimbabwe”, it’s the highest point of the island with views that will blow your mind.[vc_single_image image=”3786″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”]
Scuba Diving
One of the activities offered at the Paradise Sun is scuba diving from a scuba school on the hotel grounds. I’m not going to lie to you, I tried it and it freaked me out having the mask over my face and breathing bottled air, but the girls took to it like pros. After initial training in the pool they were off to dive in the ocean, proud of them.

It is so nice to me and beautiful
I recently hiked Zimbabwe (Grand Fond). It definitely did not blow my mind – the peak is closed to visitors well before the summit, leaving the only decent view to be through breaks in the trees on the side of the road. Also, it is not the highest point of Praslin; that would be Mount Azore by Vallee de Mai.
I do think Lazio is my favorite beach in all Seychelles (so far anyway).
Thanks for the feedback Amy, we were there a couple of years ago and the peak was open right up to the towers at the top. I guess what we consider a “mind blowing” view is unique to each of us, it’s a pity you weren’t able to reach the top, I’m sure you would have agreed with me had you done so. At least we agree on Anse Lazio though 😉 Safe travels.
